Children in Mpigi

Of the 40 million people living with HIV worldwide over 75% live in sub-Saharan Africa.Without treatment the population of this region will be decimated over the next few years. There are already over 12 million children in sub-Saharan Africa who have lost one or both parents to AIDS.

This desperate future is preventable. The treatments now available can stop AIDS in its tracks and allow most individuals to recover and lead a long active life. Our challenge and the challenge of the African and international communities is to urgently provide the resources and expertise to allow all infected individuals to have equitable access to HIV treatment and prevention.

The Réalta Foundation in partnership with our African friends and colleagues is committed to building the type of sustainable local expertise and capacity in HIV/AIDS treatment that will be necessary for the fight against AIDS to succeed.
